Dr. Colin Mizuo, DPM

Dr. Colin Mizuo was born on Yokota Air Base in Japan. His family moved to Dallas, Texas when he was two years old. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology at the University of North Texas and earned his Doctorate from Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in North Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Mizuo completed a three-year residency at Medstar Washington Hospital Center, a level 1 trauma center in Washington D.C where he served as chief resident.

Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Mizuo commissioned into the United States Navy. He served three years at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina treating the active duty and civilian population with heavy emphasis on sports medicine, trauma, arthroscopy, minimally invasive procedures, and complex forefoot and rearfoot reconstruction. He also has an extensive background in Charcot reconstruction with specialized training in diabetic limb salvage at one of the premier training facilities at Georgetown University Hospital. Dr. Mizuo received numerous distinguished awards during his military career and performed the first Matrix Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation (MACI) procedure in the ankle at a military hospital in the United States. He also has multiple publications focused on cartilage regeneration, sports medicine, and minimally invasive bunion procedures in the high activity demand population.

Dr. Mizuo is a board-certified surgeon in both forefoot and rearfoot/ankle by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS). He serves on multiple committees within ACFAS and the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) and lectures on the national level. Dr. Mizuo has an extensive background in multiple sports and played semi-professional rugby. He has a predilection for trauma and sports medicine with particular interest in cartilage regeneration procedures.

Evidence based medicine and individual circumstances are the main drivers in Dr. Mizuo’s treatment philosophy of personalized care. He believes proper education during the doctor-patient interaction is fundamental in building trust and proper expectations for goals of treatment.

Outside of work, Dr. Mizuo enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, golf, and flag football. He is a Marvel comic and movie fanatic. He enjoys traveling and tasting food from all over the world. Dr. Mizuo also has a cat named Baby Sasha who goes with him on all his adventures.
